In youth Santiago was a powerful youngman.He was given the title of "The Champion".He was used to play the hand.game with a negro .He had defeated the negro .He also took part in many other hand.game compititions and won all of those. 4:An Intelligent Man: Santiago was very intelligent .he had sixth sense with which he could foresee the future posibilities.He could easily foresee the movements of the great fish He loosend and tightened the cord ,according to the need of the hour .He showed much wisdom in killing the Marlin. 5: An Experienced Fisherman: He is an expert fisherman as well as an expert seaman.He knows the climate and seasons very well.He can distinguish wet clouds from the dry clouds.He knows a lot about trade.winds and other atmospheric changes. 6: Loved by Others / A Popular figure: Santia5o is a very popular figure in his suburb .People love him.The boy 9amed Manolin treats him very kindly. The owner of the Terrace sends him food drinks.He has credit at the Terrace.This shows that people have confidence in him.
