Q # 3.Discuss Santiago,s struggle against Sharks and its significance .Ans.santiago was badly hurt while catching the Marlin.He fastened the dead Marlin to his boat and started on his homeward journey.The Mako sharks attacked the dead marlin and tore away a big piece of its flesh ,Santiago killed it with his harpoon .He could see the deformed body of the Marlin.Santiago felt as if he himself had been attacked by the shark.He was prepaired to get destroyed personally in his process.So he said " a man can be destroyed but not defeated ".He thought it a sin not to be hopeful.He felt pride in killing the Marlin as he deserved it.Then he saw more sharks approaching towards him ,He felt as if nail had been driven through his hands and into wood.This was an experience of crucification.He killed two more sharks and broke his knife blade.Now he had only a gaff to attack the sharks.
