Novel.Q# 10.The Role of the Sea:Ans.The role of the sea is very important in the novel .It works in two different ways.It is a friend as well as enemy for the sailers.Any how ,it is inevitable in the life of the sailers .They consider it a living being.They call it by different names.Sometimes,it brings happiness and sometimes sorrows.They call it with different names according to thier mood.The other fishermen call it as "El Mar " which is masculine.This is word from Spanish .The younger fishermen call it as they think it a great contestant.They have to fight it with all thier qualities of head and heart.The oldman call it "La Mar" which is feminine.He considers the sea as a woman.He shows his love for it.The sea can be taken in two different meanings.Firstly,it may be taken as it carries many benefits for the fishermen.The oldman is nothing without the sea. He spent his whole life adventuring in the sea and enjoying its favours from it .The oldman loves the sea not only because it gives him food to eat but it is also a source with the help of which he maintains his ego and pride.The sea works for him such a field which offers him an opportunity to test his endurance .He has learnt in the sea how to show the feats of bravery and patient against unlimited powers of the sea.We find that he waits for the fish for three days and nights.This is a test of his patience then he fights against fish many times powerful than him.(the end)
