All the World is a Stage || Poetry BA English easy Notes
In this poem the poet has compared this world to a stage and human beings to actors.
One man in his normal life span passes through seven stages .At first stage,he is an infant who pucks milk in the arms of his nurse. He cries feebly. At second stage he becomes a school going boy.He goes to school unwillingly. He is carrying a heavy bag on his shoulders and creeps like a snail. At the fourth stage he becomes young and plays the role of a lover. He falls in love with some girl and is absorbed in her memories. He heaves sighs like a furnace in the absence of his lady love.He composes poetry in the praise of her physical charms. At the fourth stage ,he becomes mature and plays the role of a soldier. He takes strange oaths and picks quarrels at petty matters. He hankers after worldly fame which is transient like a bubble. At fifth stage,he plays the role of a judge. He is the head of the family and he has to take important decisions like a judge. His belly protrudes due to over eating. At sixth stage,he becomes an old man.His healthy body turns into a cartoon. His clothes become loose at his body.He wears glasses as his eye sight weakens. He takes tobacco or snuff to relieve his tensions. At the last stage ,he turns into childishness once again. He loses his memory power .He becomes helpless like a child. He loses all his five senses and is ready to enter his grave.
