Notes on Selection of Modern English Essays
Essay no.1 Pakistan and the Modern World.
This essay is an exteact from Liaqiat Ali Khan s speech which he delivered at the university of Kansas.In this essay ,Liaqiat Ali Khan tells the Americana ,how and why Pakistan came into being.He justifies the creation of Pakistan on rational grounds.He also highlights the role of newly born Pakistan in establishing world peace.
Firstly,he emphasizes that the partirion of the united India was indespensable.If the British had left India undivided,the Hindus would have dominated the Muslims.It would simply mean the change of masters.It would lead to serious upheavals in India.So the creation of Pakistan was justified from the view of world peace.
Secondly,he throws light on two nation theory.The Hindus and the Muslims,the two nations ,had different cultures,religions,and social systems.The muslims believed in one God whereas the Hindus believed in many gods.They had different social customs and ways of living.The Hindus believed in caste system whereas the Muslims believed in the equality of all men.Both the nations had their own economic institutions.The Hindus believed in the accumulation of wealth whereas the Muslims had faith in equal distribution of wealth.
Thirdly Liaqiat Ali says that from geographical point of view ,the division of India was necessary.The united India was vast enough to be divided into two independent states i.e India and Pakistan.
Fourthly,he urges upon America and the western world to play their role in maintaining peace and promoting democracy in Pakistan.They developed countries should fight against aggression and tyranny.They must help Pakistan in the field of science and technology.
