The Huntsman || Poetry BA English easy Notes
This poem is a folklore. It is highly moralizing as it preaches the value of silence.
This poem presents a hunter,Kagwa. He goes to the forest and hunts big animals. One day he happens to see a human skull which speaks. He rushes to the king s court to report this novel incident. The king doubts the truth of his statement. He send two of his guards with Kagwa to verify his statement.Kagwa and the two guards search for the skull after a great deal of struggle but the skull does not speak .At this they kill Kagwa as they had been ordered by the king.
This poem is full of suspense and irony. We feel suspense from the very beginning to the end.The irony is that a great hunter is himself hunted by a lifeless skull.Kagwa, instead of getting a reward from the king, gets death.
The moral is that we should speak carefully before the dictators. We should avoid loose talking.
